Unschooling days? How does it look like...

Unschooling days? How does it look like...

Home education tends to morph into structure school-like days. During our 2020 and more traditional days that's what I thought life should look like and created schedules and spaces that allowed for the school-at-home model.

Switching to Unschooling pushed me into the edge of expansion several times but the first one of many was about our daily activities. There is no right or wrong answer here but just what works for you and your children. Yet, having some examples are helpful because it could bring forth ideas worth sharing with your family.

Sample day...

☕️ Morning coffee with my partner around 8ish.

📓 Journaling. Computer time. Paying some bills.

🥳 My youngest son wakes up. Morning cuddles.

⏲️ We cooked "sopita" (some quick Mexican soup).

📺 We watched the show "Animal Control," Roblox. Shower for me.

🚗 Drove to the thrift store and got some amazing treasures.

🧪Spent some time opening the treasure box from the store. I kept organizing

our linen closet (been working on that for a few days) and went to pick up two tins that were gifted to me.

🥖 Drove to a new bakery and picked up some goodness. Cooking lasagna.

🌲 Spent some time outside with the giant slinky we scored at the thrift store.

🥋My husband has martial arts tonight. Boys will play, have dinner and my husband and I will watch our show before going to bed.

💪 My oldest will stay up for a while.

The day isn't on a minute-by-minute description as I have too much phone time sometimes and there are conversations, messages and other things but you get the picture.

Although our days look different whether we are home or traveling there are a few practices that help ground me.

☕️ Morning coffee and making my bed when I first wake up. Making the bed first thing in the morning signals my brain that the day starts, and so does the coffee.

💤 "Putting the kitchen to bed" — I absolutely love this because there is nothing more satisfying than making coffee in a clean kitchen. Right before my husband and I start our show I will load dishes into the dishwasher, press start, clean the sink and other counter areas. It feels good and it looks amazing.

🌮Starting with a clean kitchen allows me to prep food for tiny hands and leave dishes in the sink while we do something or while we go places. Yes, my sink will always have dirty dishes and I have come to the conclusion that no matter how many times you clean them there will always be dishes to wash. So I don't worry about it anymore.

👊🏽Decluttering and organizing is a daily practice. I am constantly decluttering corners of our house and list for sale, give or donate. It all depends on my mood.
